CHALLENGE OVERVIEW
The Hull Marathon is a 26.2 mile running event which takes place in our city every year. Hull Active Schools are inviting schools to take part and complete the same distance ‘virtually’! either as class/year groups or as individuals. Schools must register their interest on www.yourschoolgames.com website. All schools registered will receive certificates and additional guidance to ensure a successful delivery within school. Please download our virtual Hull Marathon recording sheets to display at your school and keep track of your students progress. Schools have two delivery options to take part virtually;
Complete the virtual Hull Marathon Challenge as a whole class ‘bubble’ and every one in that class takes part as a collective. Over a whole half term you record each time your class completes 1 /2 mile. You may split the distance up to even smaller amounts i.e 1/4 mile a day. As long as everyone eventually crosses the 26.2 mile distance finishing line together!
Complete as individuals and focus on personal achievement. Children to be invited to complete miles during school break/lunchtimes or whilst at home! Student led activity which promotes healthy active lifestyles. Teachers encouraged to promote this as a whole family challenge to support young people engage their parents/carers and any siblings to take part!
Top Tips!
Promote via social media and on your school website! This type of virtual challenges is perfect for engaging the wider school community. It would set an example for all students if STAFF complete the challenge too.
Incorporate the challenge into existing PE lessons i.e. Hull Marathon Top Up time at the start or end of each lesson to form wither a warm up or cool down. What about setting as an active travel competition?
Create your own bespoke running route on your playground or playing fields. This could become part of the whole challenge for the students. Using basic measuring equipment i.e Trundle Wheel and Chalk!
