Collaboration and Teamwork

Our programs allow young people to actively work co-cooperatively within sport teams and contribute to tactics and strategies during a competition or festival. To develop a tactical running order in a sports hall athletics competition or ensure everyone gets a fair time allocation in a timed badminton festival are two examples of this.

Ethics

Opportunity to demonstrate fair play and sportsmanship by following our Hull Active Schools Student Code of Conduct. Using appropriate language during a competition or festival and respecting opponents, team managers and officials is something we actively award through spirit of the games scoring.

Responsibility and Leadership

Becoming a sports leader/official/team manager at a variety of Hull Active Schools events allows young people to work with their peers. Our program has a leadership academy available from KS2 through to KS5. Simple but effective opportunities to demonstrate responsibility is never overlooked i.e by putting out and collecting equipment prior to and after activities.

Communication

Communication skills are an integral part of sport. During competitions and festivals verbal and non-verbal methods of communication are essential and we provide plenty of opportunities to develop this. Gesturing using hands to receive a pass in netball or calling to a throw-in taker in football which part of the body you would like to receive the ball.

Relationships

Demonstrating empathy, compassion and camaraderie with team mates and other competitors is encouraged. Playing inline with our Student Code of Conduct and abiding by the written and unwritten rules of the game and applauding teams at the presentations is consistently reinforced by our organisation. Opportunities to demonstrate an awareness of feelings and the needs and interests of others is available through our clear and confidential reporting avenues of any inappropriate behaviour of participants and spectators to an appropriate adult.

Society and Culture - Respect, Honesty and Passion

Opportunities to recognise discrimination and prejudice and report anyone who behaves inappropriately at our events. Opportunities to participate in citywide sports events and competitions can improve community well-being across Hull and introduce young people to different cultures outside their local school community. Being part of both county and national sporting leagues and affiliations further increases our scope. Opportunities to demonstrate respect to your peers by treating others as you would want to be treated yourself.
